Man Utd enter to sign 17-year-old Liverpool said to be preparing £50m bid for

Manchester United have now joined the race to sign Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray but the Old Trafford outfit is concerned the 17-year-old will reject them.

Gray has attracted plenty of attention with his performances at Elland Road. It's really no surprise that the likes of Liverpool and United are keen on signing him.

The latter may not be able to sign him while the Reds have linked with making a massive bid for the teenager.

Man Utd concerned Gray will reject them

A report from Football Transfers claims that Gray's list of suitors is growing longer each day. Liverpool are already interested while Manchester United are now sniffing around a potential deal.

They fear, however, that Gray would reject them.

This is put down to him playing for Leeds, one of United's fiercest rivals. Gray's family is made up of Leeds supporters, who would likely suggest he not move to Old Trafford.

Overview of Liverpool interest in Archie Gray

In November, a report from the Daily Mail claimed that Leeds had slapped a £50 million on Archie Gray with Liverpool said to be ready to meet the asking price.

This has yet to be confirmed in the form of a formal approach or bid but Liverpool are keeping their cards characteristically close to their chest.

It still seems more likely that a new defensive midfielder will only be signed in the summer as the Reds take stock of who's available and who isn't before making their move to replace Fabinho following his move to the Saudi Pro League.

Neil Jones says it’s unlikely Liverpool will pay a big fee to sign Gray

Neil Jones recently appeared on the Redmen TV podcast and said he would be shocked if Liverpool paid the £40-£50M Leeds want to sell Gray.

"£40 million is huge," Jones said.

"We were speaking just before we came on, Leeds have only sold two players, I think, in the history, for that price."

Jones continued: "And they were Kalvin Phillips, who's an England international and 26/27 and Raphinha, who's a Brazilian international who went to Barcelona.

"So the idea that £40 million, for you know however talented a young lad is, and we're talking about Stefan Bajcetic. At 19 still and still having lots to prove and we're talking about Harvey Elliott at 20 with nearly 100 games under his belt still having a bit to prove.

"Archie Gray has an awful lot to prove and you know, I think £40 million seems like a huge fee. I think there's a contract negotiation going on there with Leeds."
