LFC walked away from "unbelievable" star but agreed £60m deal for even better player

Liverpool walked away from a deal to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea after refusing to pay more than £40 million.

They followed that by signing Dominik Szoboszlai for £60 million and, so far, it's safe to say they got a better deal than Manchester United did.

The Athletic reports that Liverpool were unwilling to meet the demands were making for Mount so they moved onto alternative targets before Man Utd stumped up cash required.

After the deal was announced, Sky Sports reported that it would cost the Old Trafford outfit an initial £55 million which could rise to £60 million depending on Mount's performance.

Liverpool wound up spending roughly the same amount to sign Dominik Szoboszlai but he has already captured the hearts of supporters with it seemingly certain he will become a world class player.

His biggest test in a Red shirt comes this weekend with a trip to face Manchester City away in the Premier League.

With the festive fixture list approaching, whoever wins will put themselves in a good position to be top of the table at the start of 2024.

During the international break, Szoboszlai helped Hungary qualify for the EUROs scheduled to take place in Germany next year so he will be at maximum confidence come Saturday.

His energy, pace and unreal ball-striking technique have wowed onlookers this season and with the iconic no.8 jersey, the 23-year-old has everything it takes to be a success.

Mason Mount is no slouch but given his form at United so far and their poor league form, it will take longer for them to get a return on their investment whereas it seems Liverpool are already seeing what they paid for.
