Liverpool reject transfer offer after approach made to sign exciting defender

Liverpool have rejected an offer for 21-year-old left-back Owen Beck amid injury concerns.

Jurgen Klopp is without both Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson due to serious injuries and was forced to call on Joe Gomez to play out of position. Fortunately, his form has been exemplary if not quite outstanding given the circumstances.

A report from Football Insider suggests that Rangers made an for Beck but were swiftly rejected. The reason being that there is not currently enough squad depth to allow him to leave.

Luke Chambers was just sent on loan to Wigan but the fullback is still only 19 so it may be too soon to rely on him given the pressure to deliver results in the Liverpool first-team.

The Reds are currently top of the table and advancing in all the cup tournaments.

With Tsimikas and Robertson not expected back in training until the end of January, Klopp may need to call on Beck if Gomez is injured or needs a rest.

It's a smart decision from the club especially given there are currently no plans to sign a new left-back this month. It's very rare for Klopp to make stop-gap signings and as we saw with Arthur Melo's loan last season, it doesn't always work out.

Beck was recalled from his Dundee United loan where he impressed and depending on Liverpool's needs, he may get some minutes in the next few weeks.
