Liverpool can now hijack €70 million Manchester United bid for Tchouameni - report

Manchester United have reportedly made a bid to sign Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and it may present the perfect opportunity to hijack their move.

Erik ten Hag has reportedly kept his promise to the French midfielder with United making a €70 million (£60m) bid after signing Casemiro in January.

Reports from Spain have also recently linked Liverpool with a move for the 23-year-old stating the "impossible sale is now possible."

Liverpool were the strongest competitor for Tchouameni's signature last summer but ultimately they could not compete with Real Madrid's financial power.

Tchouameni: "Impossible sale is now possible."

Now, however, according to Catalonian outlet El Nacional via Football 365, a realistic option for the Reds and with Fabrizio Romano suggesting Liverpool are serious about signing Moises Caicedo, Jurgen Klopp's midfield could be set for the greatest overhaul of all time.

The German could go from releasing/selling Milner, Henderson, Fabinho, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur to signing Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Moises Caicedo and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Given FSG's history in the transfer market, it seems unlikely they would sanction a further £160 million after the £90 million spent on signings so far this summer.

Tchouameni would be the dream holding midfield signing

The departure of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho has seriously weakened Liverpool's depth in the holding midfield role and if you had to pick a player from Europe's best holding midfielder in the U23s, Tchouameni would be the pick.

The physicality of the Premier League would not be an issue for the 6 foot 2 France international and neither would the intensity.

When players arrive in England, a lot of players struggle with the lack of time they have on the ball.

Given his 92.9% pass accuracy and the fact that, according to Fbrefs data, he is tackled only once every two games on everage, I don't think he'll struggle at all.

In fact, Tchouameni is the sort of signing (much like Caicedo) that could be the difference between fighting for top four and fighting for the Premier League title.

Signing both would cost an amount of money FSG simply do not spend but we can dream, right?
