Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool preparing a verbal bid for £100 million signing

On Thursday morning, reports broke that Liverpool had outbid Chelsea for Moises Caicedo.

The Telegraph’s Matt Law reported that Liverpool had submitted a higher bid for Caicedo than any offer Chelsea sent to Brighton, with the Ecuadorian 21-year-old preferring a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, this update was quickly dismissed by journalists close to Liverpool with the Times' Paul Joyce stating that while the Reds have been in contact with Brighton, they were simply conducting their "due diligence" in case Chelsea might not sign him.

The club expect Caicedo to join Chelsea and have not made a bid.

In contrast to this, Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool prepared a "verbal bid" for Caicedo.

Brighton value the midfielder at around £100 million, according to football.london, so it would take a surprising show of financial muscle from Liverpool to get a deal done.

Liverpool fans are desperate for positive transfer news and with Fabrizio confirming intent to bid, it's reasonable to start reading into reports from other outlets as well.

The 21-year-old would be a tremendous signing for Jurgen Klopp even if it's late into the transfer window and with Alexis Mac Allister already at Anfield, chemistry in midfield should not be a problem.

It's scary to imagine what attacks might look like with a midfield (in the new hybrid formation) featuring Trent Alexander-Arnold, Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai behind them.

As it is, Liverpool's attack is blessed with several lethal players but all that's missing is an organised and talented midfield to get the Reds back to the top.

Here's to hoping Liverpool hijack this deal from Chelsea.
