Liverpool will be worried about Nabil Fekir-esque nightmare re: medical for €100million Darwin Nunez transfer

Liverpool are wrapping up a move to sign Darwin Nunez and a medical is the last remaining formality.

The deal to sign the striker is reportedly worth €100million and he will sign a six-year contract today if all goes well.

A medical has been scheduled with the forward flying to England today but there is a small chance Liverpool fans could witness another Nabil Fekir-esque fiasco.

The chances are slim that they could see a repeat of the events that unfolded in 2018 which saw the French midfielder come within touching distance of a major money move to Anfield.

Fekir had a dodgy knee and failed a medical just before his move to Liverpool was set to be formalised and given Nunez's early-career injury record, the Reds will want to proceed with scrupulous attention to detail.

Nunez suffered a torn ACL and put him out for months early in his career before he moved to Europe and played through pain and subsequently suffered another serious injury.

However, his injury record since moving to Almeria and Benfica does suggest the worst of his injuries are now behind him which is also backed up by Liverpool being prepared to pay €100m to sign him.

While clubs are wrong all the time, the Reds will have done their homework to make sure they are not buying a crock for a club-record fee.

After Joao Felix, Nunez will become the second most expensive player in Portuguese history.

I simply can't wait to see him in action. Liverpool haven't had a no.9 with his eye for goal since Luis Suarez left Anfield and it's some coincidence that he's Uruguayan as well.

Liverpool have a long, rich history of world-class forwards and Nunez will not be out of place next to Mohamed Salah.
