Liverpool receive massive boost to sign player FSG took on a two-hour private jet ride

RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo, as quoted by Marca, claims Kylian Mbappe has asked to leave Paris Saint-Germain which means they have a decision to make.

The 22-year-old has just over 12 months remaining on his contract in Paris and should he refuse to extend it any longer, the Parisians will be left with two choices and neither of them are pleasing to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

The Ligue 1 giants can either sell him this summer or keep him for one final season and let him leave for free in the summer of 2022. The latter would be a catastrophic situation given they signed him for £180m (£165.7m) in 2017, according to BBC Sport.

Al-Khelaifi powerless to stop Mbappe leaving

"I will be clear, Mbappe is going to stay in Paris," Al-Khelaifi told L'Equipe. "We will never sell him and he will never leave on a free (transfer). Mbappe has everything he needs in Paris.

"Where can he go? What club, in terms of ambition, can compete with PSG today? All I can say is that things are going well and I hope we can reach an agreement (on a new contract).

"This is Paris, this is his country. He has a mission, not only to play football, but to promote Ligue 1, his country and his capital."

And now, French journalist Daniel Riolo, who works for RMC Sport, claims that the forward has asked to leave Parc des Princes.

According to AS, Riolo said: "I know that Mbappe asked to leave, but it is complicated because first you have to find a club that has the money to pay him, but the news is that he really does not want to stay.

"The player does not believe in Leonardo's project. If he does not leave this summer, it will be for free next season. And in Doha [PSG's owners] they do not want to hear about it.

"If Mbappe expresses this desire to leave, it means that he will have to find a club and that PSG will need to look for a replacement.

"But yes, the news is that Mbappe does not want to stay at PSG."

What does this mean for Liverpool?

Let's assume that Jurgen Klopp still holds an interest in signing the forward. He needs to convince FSG that it's in their best interest to spend nearly £150million to sign Mbappe this summer.

John W. Henry reportedly took Mbappe and his family on a two-hour ride on his private jet in 2017 when he was set to leave AS Monaco and while that approach was unsuccessful, it will have left a lasting impression on the young centre-forward.

Or, Liverpool can wait and sign him next year for free which, in all honesty, is what the Reds are most likely to do if it's true that the Frenchman doesn't want to stay in Ligue 1.

There will still be the small matter of his gargantuan wages which Goal reports sees him earn approximately €398,000/week (£339,000/week).
