Pep Guardiola says "congratulations" to Liverpool in sarcastic comment

Liverpool have 21 points more than they did after 27 matches last season and Pep Guardiola seems to be feeling the pressure despite Manchester City's 3-1 comeback win over United on Sunday afternoon.

The Sky Blues went 1-0 down after eight minutes via a Marcus Rashford thunderbolt but a Phil Foden brace and a late Erling Haaland strike gave City the three points.

Now, with both sides playing midweek, the title race showdown will have to wait until the weekend.

Pep Guardiola claims City are in control in the title race but is showing signs of feeling the pressure in this season's battle to lift the Premier League trophy.

Speaking to reporters after his team beat United, Guardiola said: “It is about us. We can’t control what Liverpool or Arsenal, Aston Villa or other contenders do, it is about us.

"We do what we have to do to win today, next Wednesday and Sunday. This team is legendary. Will we do it? I don’t know. We have today more points at this stage than last season."

Liverpool, who have 21 points more than last season, will have to make do with a sarcastic 'congratulations' from Pep as the Spaniard attempts his classic mind games before a massive game.

Pep continued: "The difference is Liverpool have I don’t know how many more points than this stage last season.

"When the opponent is behaving like this, what can I say, congratulations so far. We will continue to try game by game.”

With Man City's next game at Anfield, the moment has arrived for Liverpool to ensure they head into the final 10 games of the season with an advantage over both City and Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp is working miracles at the moment to get his side over the line each matchday.

As things stand, Liverpool have nine players set to miss City's trip to Anfield through injury.
