Mohamed Salah hands Liverpool huge Premier League title boost but Klopp faces new injury headache

| by Michael Mongie

Mohamed Salah, Joe Gomez, Alisson Becker and Conor Bradley have all returned to training at the AXA Training Centre but Trent Alexander-Arnold has not. Liverpool are preparing for the next test of their Premier League title credentials with a trip to face Brentford on Saturday.

The Egyptian has been suffering from a hamstring injury suffered at AFCON but has now returned to team training. His return is a huge boost to the Reds' title chances.

On the whole, Jurgen Klopp's other attackers performed admirably in his absence but there is no doubting that no one else compares to Salah on the right wing.

With Salah back and Wataru Endo already back from international duty himself, Liverpool can now look to put that result behind them despite the consequences for the Premier League title race.

Things are shaping up very nicely for the Reds.

Top of the table, into the final of the league cup, progressing well in the FA Cup and Europa League.

The mood after losing to Arsenal was mixed. There was a lot of disappointment which is understandable but our message was to look at the overall positives of Liverpool's position this season.

There is a lot to be excited although there is more worry for Jurgen Klopp with Trent missing from training today.

What about Trent Alexander-Arnold? When is he back from injury?

In a quote reply on Twitter, journalist David Lynch reports that while Salah, Alisson, Gomez and Bradley returned to training, there was no sign of vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Scouser is suffering from a recurrence of the knee injury he suffered against Arsenal and is a growing concern for Jurgen Klopp.

Having just returned from a ligament tear and the tape around his knee he has been wearing since, Alexander-Arnold's issue with his knee is beginning to be a major concern.

"Trent hyperextended his knee during the last game," Lijnders told the club's website after the 2-0 win FA Cup over Arsenal in January.

"So he has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and he will need time to recover. He had a scan and he will be out for a few weeks, so let's see after that."

A player of his technical ability needs to be protected from recurring injuries as he's simply too good in the long term to be worth risking if not ready to return.

Bradley performed admirably in his absence so Klopp and Liverpool should not hesitate to give him the time he needs to recover.

Expected return date

Trent will hopefully be back from his knee injury soon but there is currently no date set on his return to training.

While he may not be in action right now, reports have surfaced this week suggesting the club is ready to make a contract offer to Trent that will be worth more and be for a longer term than the offers being made to Virgil van Dijk and Salah. Football Insider claims all three will be offered new deals and Liverpool are "hopeful" they will stay at the club.
