Liverpool will be making a “major signing” if things proceed as planned

Fenway Sports Group will be adding a top, top talent to their ranks by hiring Sporting Lisbon tactician Ruben Amorim, says former Liverpool defender Abel Xavier.

Xavier, who has a personal acquaintance with Amorim from their time together obtaining UEFA coaching certifications, highlighted Amorim's significant potential impact at Liverpool in the post-Klopp era.

While Liverpool have so far refuted any claims of a finalised deal with Amorim, the Sporting head coach emerges as the front-runner for the position following Xabi Alonso's withdrawal from consideration.

Liverpool have not agreed personal terms with Amorim but are doing due diligence on the Portuguese coach.

Amorim, at 39 and with his coaching experience confined to Portugal, remains somewhat of an enigma to many. Thus, Xavier's insights into Amorim's capabilities and character are particularly valuable.

What did Xavier have to say about Amorim to Liverpool?

Having represented Liverpool in 21 matches and scored on his debut, Xavier is familiar with the ethos and expectations at Anfield. He characterizes Amorim as a "major signing," citing his humility, discretion, and clarity of vision.

He told the BBC: “I know him very well. We finished the professional [UEFA coaching] license course together and Ruben impressed me a lot. He is very humble, discreet and has a very clear mentality.

“Liverpool’s philosophy was never signing the best players in the world. They can afford it, but if you saw under Klopp, they want to have the best collective team in the world.

“I think Ruben’s approach is very similar. I played at Liverpool, and I know the exact mentality and identity.

“With a lot of respect to Sporting Lisbon, I would like to see Ruben Amorim at Liverpool, and I think he will be a major signing considering the importance of finding the correct person after Klopp.”

Amorim heading to Anfield?

During his tenure with Sporting, Amorim has secured a league title and two Taca da Ligas, with prospects of repeating these successes this season.

However, Amorim's future with Sporting beyond the summer is uncertain, intensifying the speculation about his potential move to Liverpool.
