Chris Sutton on what Jurgen Klopp did after Liverpool lost to Crystal Palace

Jurgen Klopp watched his Liverpool team suffer defeat to Crystal Palace over the weekend, an outcome that left Chris Sutton pondering the German manager’s current state.

Klopp appeared particularly disheartened as his squad squandered numerous scoring opportunities, with key players Darwin Nunez, Mo Salah, and Diogo Jota failing to capitalise on huge chances.

This loss, compounded by a defeat for Arsenal, has effectively placed the Premier League title within Manchester City's grasp.

Moreover, Liverpool face a daunting challenge ahead, needing to overcome a 3-0 deficit against Atalanta in the Europa League during their upcoming match in Italy.

Chris Sutton, speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, noted a marked change in Klopp's demeanour, suggesting that the Liverpool manager might have lost his usual dynamism.

“I didn’t see Palace going to Anfield and rolling Liverpool over. That was a shocker," Sutton said.

"It seems like Liverpool are just running out of energy at the the wrong time. Salah since he’s come back from injury doesn’t seem the same Mo Salah, I wonder if there’s a knock-on effect. It looked like there was a hangover from the defeat against Atalanta.

“They huffed and they puffed and they’ve found a way this season.

"But listening to Klopp afterwards, that’s as…normally in press conferences or when speaking to the media, he’s quite spikey when he speaks to the media afterwards. But it sounded like he’s so flat and dejected.

"It’s going to be a horrible end to the season if they don’t pick up immediately.”

It's astonishing (and a bit upsetting) how quickly things can change in football.

Just last week, Liverpool were well placed to continue their push for the treble but since losing to Atalanta in Europe and Palace in the league, it's all gone pear-shaped.

There's still a chance the season can be rescued but it's looking as though Jurgen Klopp's final season may end with a bit of a whimper which is a real shame.

As for his demeanour at the moment, how else is a manager supposed to react when his side scores just two goals from 67 shots in three games.

The German has done an incredible job of getting this side into the title race in the first place but it may be one step too far to expect this team to lift the title this season.
