“He was absolutely right”: Manager made the right decision to reject Liverpool, says Simon Jordan

Simon Jordan has openly critiqued Paul Merson's recent comments regarding Liverpool's ongoing search for a new manager, as Jurgen Klopp’s nine-year tenure at the club draws to a close.

Klopp hopes to cap off his Liverpool career with a Premier League title, despite a recent setback - a surprising 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield.

With the season nearing its conclusion, Liverpool sit just two points behind leaders Manchester City, keeping their title hopes alive.

Amidst this tense title chase, the discussion around Klopp’s successor continues.

Xabi Alonso was a strong contender, yet he recently confirmed his intention to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, where he has led the team to their first-ever Bundesliga title and an unbeaten season thus far.

His decision stunned many, including Paul Merson, who expressed his shock, particularly given interest from clubs like Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

Merson was "shocked" at the decision.

Simon Jordan was not.

He told talkSPORT: “I think he was absolutely right not to have taken the Liverpool job. I think he was very sensible. Often in football people take the opportunity because it’s there, it’s the immediate opportunity.”

Alonso is taking his long-term future into consideration and while he could do a great job with the Reds now, he must feel he has a lot to learn before he returns to Anfield.

Jordan continued: "I thought it was strange that it was priced into Leverkusen’s thinking that they would have this propensity to release him because it was priced in, wasn’t it? Saying well, they’ve got a relationship with the manager where if a bigger club comes in, you can leave.

“Well, what do you think of your own club if you’ve already put that in there and it’s an implicit understanding? But I think it’s a telling thought process that he’s quite a mature individual that sees opportunities and thinks well, I’ll build, they’ll come.

“I was listening to Paul Merson saying the other day that this is stupid. Well, that’s why you manage Walsall Paul. Because with due respect, this guy’s managing…”

Shots fired...

I think for the most part, Liverpool fans are disappointed but more than understand Alonso's decision.

Besides, Liverpool are about more than just one man. Take Jurgen Klopp leaving. It feels like the end of the world now but the club will rebuild and hopefully, they can find similar levels of success without the iconic German.
