“I watched both games”: Rafa Benitez predicts Premier League title race outcome

Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez admits that Manchester City could drop points before the Premier League season ends but believes the advantage the champions have is significant.

The table makes for depressing viewing for Liverpool and Arsenal fans, who will now be praying that Pep Guardiola's men shock the world by dropping points in the remaining six games of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rafa gave his view on the Premier League title race after Liverpool and Arsenal dropped points on the weekend.

"Manchester City are playing with a lot of confidence,’ the former Liverpool boss said.

"They have a good squad – they can change three or four players and still win easily.

"Can I see them making similar mistakes as Liverpool and Arsenal did this weekend? Yes, I can. But at the same time the others could make mistakes so I think City have a great advantage."

Liverpool were wasteful on Sunday as they lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace despite taking 21 shots but luck was not on their side as point black shots miraculously avoided crossing the line.

Benitez is in agreement, saying: "I watched both games and Liverpool had some bad luck because they had some great chances.

"A similar thing happened with Arsenal, they were better in the first half but then they lost control of the game and they were suffering. I think, like Liverpool, being in this position where they cannot lose games or drop points affected them."

Liverpool ultimately can blame nothing or no-one for their third place position in the Premier League table. They were certainly unluck at times against Palace but their difficulties in front of goal were not limited to Sunday's defeat.

Against Manchester United and Atalanta, it was the same and with Liverpool praying for another awesome European comeback, it's anyone's guess how they plan on doing it with their current goalscoring form.
