£16.2 million a year midfielder speaks out after Liverpool disappointment turns into nightmare after summer summer transfer

Georginio Wijnaldum

Georginio Wijnaldum has admitted that his situation at PSG isn’t ideal after he swapped Liverpool for Paris in the summer.

The Dutchman joined PSG for free after his Liverpool contract expired and he is now struggling for starts, admitting that he is finding things “very difficult” at the moment.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, via Sport Witness, he said: “This situation is very difficult for me. Because I’ve played at almost all my clubs so far and it went well everywhere.

“I was really looking forward to this move from Liverpool to PSG and then this happens.

“No, I have not discussed it with the coach. I’ve only started a few games on the bench and I’ve only been with the club for two months. I am a fighter. That’s how I want to come back.”

Wijnaldum leaving Liverpool was bad for all parties

Gini left the club after failing to reach an agreement with FSG over wages and the length of his contract and as a 30-year-old, the owners felt that offering him a big deal at this age was bad business.

However, they followed it up by extending 31-year-old a new deal and the Reds now find themselves on the precipice of a midfield injury crisis with Harvey Elliott out injured while Thiago and Curtis Jones could miss the Watford clash on Saturday.

Fabinho will miss the game not through injury but rather because he and Alisson Becker are expected to arrive back in the UK too late to be involved in the game.

Jurgen Klopp will have limited options for the game but that could have been avoided had Wijnaldum been kept at the club and before he left, he was the fittest midfielder at the club.

It’s an issue that Liverpool have brought on themselves after deciding against replacing the Dutch international but hopefully, it doesn’t cost the club in the pursuit of silverware.
