West Ham to launch shock bid for midfielder yet to sign new Liverpool deal

Contract issues have dominated the headlines around Liverpool this season.

Despite the club’s success on the field this campaign, all the focus has been on potential departures. It has not helped that three of the Reds’ biggest stars are on their way out of the club. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are yet to sign new deals with Liverpool.

The trio have been pivotal to the club’s successful season so far. Liverpool are top of the Premier League with a game in hand. The Reds also finished top of the Champions League group phase. Arne Slot has been the central to the team’s performance this year.

The Dutch coach has brought the best out of players that failed to impress last year.

Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis MacAllister have excelled under Arne Slot this season. The Dutch midfielder has looked like a much different player than he was under Jurgen Klopp last year. Gravenberch has played so well that he has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season.

The performance of Gravenberch and MacAllister has meant some players in midfield have had to accept a squad role. Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliot have been used as rotation options under Arne Slot. Other midfielders at the club like Tyler Morton have dropped down the pecking order, with the 21-year old having played just five games this season.

West Ham have now been linked with Morton, as the club are reportedly monitoring his situation. Insiders at the London club say the Hammers are on alert, after Morton revealed his future could lie away from Anfield.

“…This month is obviously a big month for myself. It’s decision time.

“I think I’m ready to kick on and be a proper professional. Definitely, I think I’m ready to kick on now and ready to move up a step. If that’s here or if that’s somewhere else, football’s football. I’ve got to go and be a bit selfish and go with however I feel.”

Reds need to decide on Morton’s future

Morton has only featured in cup games this season, and with how well Arne Slot’s side have played, first team minutes will be hard to come by. It would be in the best interest of Liverpool to sanction a loan or sell the midfielder in the near future. Morton does not have many years left on his current deal, and as an England U21 star with impressive loan spells in the Championship, Liverpool could get a decent transfer fee.
