Virgil Van Djik reaches verdict on new Liverpool signings

Club captain Virgil Van Djik has reached his verdict on new Liverpool signings made during the summer. The club spent over £400m during the transfer window, a hefty investment to improve their squad.

Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong are all big names who joined Liverpool at the start of the season. Since then, they have all featured for the club, but apart from Ekitike, the rest of them are yet to come good.

Van Djik though has passed his verdict about the new incoming transfers, ahead of the club’s ‘difficult’ game against Manchester United.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Dutchman expressed his opinion on the struggles of anyone joining a big club. The problem gets compounded when the club is as big as Liverpool.

“I think the main thing is that when new players are coming in as when I came in for a lot of money is that you feel welcomed. In any profession if you come to a new place you need a bit of time to adjust”, stating the importance of giving someone the required time.

“The demands of the Premier League or the demands of being at Liverpool. We live in a world where its difficult to get time. But as long we and Liverpool are looking in the way that I’m looking at it. We want to improve and we want to get better”, added the 31-year old.

Unfair to direct all attention on Wirtz

Apart from giving the players enough time, the defender feels its unfair to direct all the criticism at Florian Wirtz.

“I see with all the additions that we made. I don’t think its good to focus purely on Florian. In this case, I think the quality that he has that Alexander has, Hugo has, Milos has. There’s no doubt about that”, trusting the quality of the new signings.

Any new setup takes time to flourish and Van Djik believes with the season progressing, things will get better.

“You know its just about being together and improve and be successful. Everyday in training or the games that we have is another opportunity to get close to each other”, he added.
