Virgil van Dijk replacement’s salary demands revealed as Liverpool show interest in him

Liverpool are preparing to invest in their defence in the upcoming transfer windows and carry out an overhaul of their backline soon.

Virgil van Dijk will be out of contract at the end of the season and he is yet to agree to sign a new deal with the Merseyside giants.

The Dutchman has been a pillar at the heart of Liverpool’s defence and was the defensive lynchpin on which the team’s recent success was built.

However, he turned 33 this summer and regardless of whether he signs a new deal, Liverpool are planning to bring in his successor or replacement next summer.

The Reds are planning to bring in a centre-back or two next summer and the club are watching several defenders as part of their plans.

The Merseyside giants are looking to bring in a defender of a younger profile but they are alive to the possibility of bringing in a more experienced option as well.

The Reds are amongst the clubs who are keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah who will be out of contract at the end of the season.

Liverpool target’s wage demands come to the fore

Tah was wanted at Bayern Munich in the summer but the German giants could not agree a fee with Leverkusen for his transfer.

The defender is in the final year of his contract and he is unlikely to sign a new deal with the current German champions.

Several clubs are interested in signing him on a free transfer and according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, he wants a contract worth €5m per season.

His salary demands make him an affordable option for a club such as Liverpool who are alive to the idea of snapping him up next summer.

Bayern Munich are also still keen to sign Tah and he has also attracted interest from Italy where Inter Milan have their eyes on him.
