Virgil Van Dijk has decided on Liverpool future

Liverpool have found out the future of their club captain.

Just months to the end of the season, a lot of things are becoming clearer at Anfield. All season long, the contract sagas have dominated the headlines. Liverpool entered this season with three of their best players at the end of their contracts. The rumours of their exits seemed to pop up after every game this season.

Such an atmosphere has not been a good thing to have at Anfield with recent results. Fans and pundits alike have criticized the Liverpool owners for allowing the situation to get out of hand. Paul Merson was vocal about how the futures of the club’s best players have been handled:

“I don’t see any of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk signing at Liverpool.

“Because I just don’t know why you wouldn’t have signed already. Why would you keep on losing £80,000 a week, every week for the last 18 months?

“In football terms, it’s criminal. It’s criminal that you can let three of the top players in the world of football have their contracts run down, and they could leave for absolutely nothing, go anywhere they want.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid. Since last month, multiple reports have come out that he has signed a contract with the Spanish side. Mohamed Salah is the last of the trio set to leave at the end of the season. The Egyptian international seems to be the only player who wants to stay. Liverpool are currently in talks with the 32-year old over a new deal.

Virgil Van Dijk’s future is now clear. According to Fichajes, the Liverpool captain is set to leave the club this summer. Paris Saint-Germain are pushing hard to sign the defender, and will offer him a lucrative contract to mkae the deal work. Van Dijk is currently the second highest earner at Anfield, and could be set to make even more money if he chooses to leave to France this summer.

PSG see the 33-year old as a key piece of their long-term project.
