Southampton subsequently scored in the play follow directly following the incident but the Reds were able to score an equaliser in the same half to bring the score back to level pegging.
However, with play set to resume after half-time and the Premier League title race hanging in the balance, you have to wonder why such an inept referee was given such an important game to officiate.
