Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke is driving the club's interest in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

According to trusted reporter Fabrizio Romano, the Dutch international is a target for the Reds but the player will have to force a move away from the Allianz Arena.

The bottom line is that Bayern Munich are maintaining their stance that Gravenberch is not for sale.

Gravenberch must force Liverpool transfer

Speaking on the Born and Red YouTube channel, Romano reports: “They love Gravenberch, 100%.

"It’s about the director, it’s about Jurgen Klopp, they really, really like the player and the player is open to the idea to make a move.

Ryan Gravenberch wants to speak to Bayern again to clarify his position.

"What I can say is that Bayern are still of the same position as in June, July and now in August – they don’t want to sell the player, they are sure that Ryan Gravenberch is going to be a top star of the position in the future, so it’s not an easy conversation with Bayern when they say no.”

Romano continued: “The only way to make it happen is on the player’s side, so if the player goes there and says ‘sell me, because I don’t want to stay here’.

"At the moment the player is concerned with the current situation because he wants to be a starter, he wants to be an important players but at the moment, he didn’t go there there and say ‘okay, let me go’. It’s still something that is on the early stages between Gravenberch and Bayern and, at the moment, Liverpool can only wait."

Clock ticking on Liverpool transfers

It seems likely that Romeo Lavia will join Liverpool this summer even if the club has made a meal out of their approach to sign the 19-year-old.

He might not start right away but it's clear that he's an extremely talented player. The main issues is that Liverpool are now in a worse situation than they ended last season in.

After the entirety of last season was spent discussing the sorry state of the Liverpool engine room, it would be a complete failure if Klopp ends this summer transfer window having to deal with the same issue.

Gravenberch would be a fantastic signing but with Bayern putting their foot down, it will be difficult to sign him with the clock ticking.

The summer transfer window finishes in just under a month on the 3rd of September but with around three signings needed, Schmadtke is under pressure to perform.

Hopefully the 59-year-old gets the players Klopp needs so Liverpool can bounce back from last season's disappointment.
