Liverpool receive transfer negotiations boost as club view completing transfer as "almost impossible"

Liverpool are making moves to sign Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer and will be encouraged by Real Madrid's bleak chances of signing the Frenchman.

French outlet L'Equipe reports that Liverpool are already "in contact" with Mbappe and his entourage over a potential move to Anfield ahead of the 2024/25 season.

It would be one of the biggest transfer coups of all time but remains a highly unlikely transfer.

It is encouraging to learn, however, that Madrid are not confident they can beat Liverpool to the French striker's signature.

Real Madrid consider signing Kylian Mbappe to be "almost impossible"

Liverpool are planning crucial talks with Mbappe but a new claim suggests that Madrid are resigning themselves to missing out on the chance to sign the Paris Saint-Germain superstar.

According to journalist José Félix Díaz, Real Madrid see their chances of signing Erling Haaland as very distant while they consider signing Kylian Mbappe as "almost impossible."

For the time being, Los Blancos are NOT considering a move to sign the 25-year-old.

If reports are true and Liverpool are indeed in dialogue with Mbappe and planning to offer him a contract to move to the Premier League, this will come as a welcome update.

However, signing Mbappe would not be an entirely happy affair as it may mean Mohamed Salah must leave the club to fund the transfer.

Liverpool can only sign Mbappe if they sell Mo Salah

According to the Telegraph's journalist Jason Burt, Mbappe has “genuine affection” for Liverpool given his mother and agent is a supporter of the Merseyside club's.

However, Burt delivers a bleak line when he writes that signing Mbappe would hinge on letting Salah move to the Saudi Pro League.

Burt continued: “But if there was any chance of a deal it would take an awful lot of working parts to connect and probably, not least, the departure of Mohamed Salah to Saudi Arabia to help finance it.”

The reason Salah would need to leave is because Liverpool would not be able to afford his salary in addition to the mega contract Mbappe wants to join his next club.

Allegedly, the forward “expects a salary of £64.5 million a year." To make this more astonishing, he wants this sum after tax.

“That equates to £1.24 million a week,” Burt says.

If Liverpool pull this off, it would be a miracle but signing the exceptionally talented striker is not worth it if it means the Reds have to sell Salah.

David Ornstein has recently suggested that Salah may still decide to remain at Liverpool and extend his contract but only time will tell if that is to come to pass.
