Paul Joyce: Klopp omits player from friendly squad as Liverpool exit grows nearer

Paul Joyce has confirmed that Jordan Henderson will miss today's pre-season friendly with Karlsruher due to Al-Ettifaq's ongoing attempts to sign the 33-year-old.

Liverpool are set to start their pre-season with a friendly against German outfit Karlsruher which will provide fans with a first glimpse at new signings Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Jurgen Klopp will most likely field two separate lineups for 45 minutes each as he typically does in the first pre-season game of the summer but it will not feature Henderson.

As the skipper nears an exit to Saudi Arabia, this is a big indication that he will leave as reported. Fabinho has not travelled with the group to Germany as his own move to Al-Ittihad nears.

Is selling Jordan Henderson the correct decison?

It's my opinion that it's the right time to sell Henderson. With Liverpool already focused on revamping their midfield and given his age, it's the right time to part ways.

That said, selling Fabinho may be a mistake unless Liverpool can work their magic and find a replacement that can match his impact.

Henderson has not been the same player for over a year now as years of playing a high-intensity, high work-rate style of play has taken its toll on his body.

The Englishman relies on his stamina and work-rate to provide his attacking teammates with a foundation upon which to succeed.

While headlines may be dominated by speculation surrounding Henderson's move to Saudi Arabia, the narrative should instead shift to the future of this side.

Liverpool have done great work this summer to bring Mac Allister and Szoboszlai to the club and if they can add a couple more high quality players to the squad, last season's frustrating form may soon be forgotten about.
