Mohamed Salah has allegedly signed contracts for a transfer to the Saudi Pro League

According to former Premier League and Egypt forward Mido, Mohamed Salah has agreed to terms for a summer transfer to the Saudi Pro League.

Taking to Twitter (X), the 41-year-old reports: “Mohamed Salah will be in the Saudi League next season. Contracts have been signed.”

This contradicts what recent reports have predicted for the Liverpool forward. Most recently. Anfield Central reported on the club's stance on selling Salah with Saudi clubs expected to make contact in the coming weeks. The Reds want to retain Salah's services and are prepared to discuss a new deal at the end of the season.

What the future of Liverpool FC would look like without Mohamed Salah and Jurgen Klopp...

The potential departure of Mohamed Salah from Liverpool, as reported by Mido, would represent a significant moment for the club, especially in the context of Jurgen Klopp's impending departure.

Salah has been a pivotal figure for Liverpool, contributing significantly to their success over the past several years. His exit would symbolise the end of an era and the beginning of a major transition phase for the team.

Replacing him would be spectacularly difficult. Since moving to Anfield in 2017, Salah has 205 goals and 89 assists.

Liverpool would need to act swiftly and wisely to replace a player of Salah's calibre. The club might look to reinvest the funds from Salah's transfer into the squad, targeting younger talents with potential or established stars ready to step into the limelight.

The recruitment strategy would need to align with the new manager's vision and tactics, ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining competitive performance levels.

Given Salah's quality to the team, finding a direct replacement with a similar impact would be challenging. The club might opt for a more holistic approach, strengthening multiple areas of the team to distribute the responsibility of Salah's goal-scoring and creative output.

Financial implications

Liverpool rejected a £150 million bid from Al-Hilal before the start of the season which is an indication of how much the 31-year-old is worth.

With his contract set to expire in 2025, Liverpool is in a vulnerable negotiating position.

The club could still command a significant transfer fee, possibly in the same ballpark as the rejected bid, especially considering the financial power of Saudi clubs and how important he is to Pro League plans to grow.

This income would be crucial in enabling Liverpool to make high-calibre signings to replace Salah and potentially strengthen other areas of the squad. However, the challenge will be to invest wisely, ensuring that the new signings can fill the void left by Salah and adapt to the Premier League's demands.
