"In talks": Potential development on Wednesday could spark progress for £25m gem

Liverpool are in talks to sign Brazlian midfielder André and with the 22-year-old relatively unknown, dive in and learn a bit more about him.

Senior Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy reported last week that Liverpool "have officially made contact with Fluminense over the possibility of signing midfielder André."

Neil Jones corroborates her story and adds that if Fluminense are eliminated from Copa Libertadores, a deal could progress.

The Brazilian outfit faces Argentinos Juniors on Wednesday in the second leg of the Round of 16 with the tie deadlocked at 1-1 on aggregate.

If Fluminense are eliminated and Liverpool do progress a deal to sign the Brazilian, they will be signing a truly special player and for below £25m, it would be a bargain too.

What is André's background story?

Born in Ibirataia, Brazil in 2001, the 22-year-old has already developed an impressive reputation for playing stylish but combative football at the heart of midfield.

André began his career with Fluminense and to date, he has spent 10 years with the club so although a move to Anfield would bring huge excitement, it would also be an emotional farewell.

He has made 145 appearances for Fluminense, scoring three goals. Of course, he's not known for his attacking display, shining in defensive situations where his aggression and technique combine for a formidable opponent.

Already capped by Brazil and linked with a move to Liverpool, it's clear the midfielder is recognised for his talent.

What are André's strengths and weakness?

While he's not a perfect player, André's main weakness is his height. In the Premier League, his 5 foot 9 frame will not be one he would be able to throw around.

That said, his greatest strength is his technical ability. As you would expect from Brazilian footballers, André has great technique.

In fact, his passing stats rank stand up against some of the best midfielders in the world.

For passing he ranks in the 99th percentile for many metrics but it's his ball retention that impresses the most. Data from Fbrefs shows that he takes 85 touches of the ball on average per game, placing him in the 97th percentile of all midfielders.

Last season, his pass accuracy was 93% on average while he displayed his progressive nature, carrying the ball further forward than 99% of all midfielders.

Liverpool's midfield has been wholly incapable of retaining possession under pressure recently and the addition of a player like André would improve this greatly.
