Liverpool have transfer win over Man Utd as Gary Neville proven wrong

Liverpool are on a five-game winning streak in the Premier League putting in a dominant performance against West Ham on Sunday.

While many journalists and pundits predicted early season troubles for Jurgen Klopp's squad after their fifth-place finish last season, they have the second strongest defence after six games.

Still unbeaten as well, Liverpool are now preparing for their first Carabao Cup game of the season against Leicester City on Wednesday.

Klopp would swap Liverpool midfield for Man Utd midfield, said Neville

Liverpool sold or released six midfielders this summer and replaced them with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

So far, all four have impressed at varying degrees with Szoboszlai and Mac Allister already operating at astonishing levels.

Manchester United sold Fred and released Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst at the end of their loan spells, replacing by signing Mason Mount from Chelsea and Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina.

This business, which on paper, is very astute especially given the inflated prices for midfielders this summer.

Gary Neville said on Sky Sports' the Overlap that he believed Klopp himself would happily trade his midfield options for Manchester United's.

He said: "When you look at the actual players, let's take United as an example; Fernandes, Mount, Casemiro, Eriksen. I think that Jurgen Klopp would swap his midfield now for United's."

Liverpool are second in the Premier League after following their 1-1 draw with Chelsea by winning five league games on the bounce.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have been inconsistency personified. Three wins and three defeats in the opening six games of the season is a worrying sign for the Old Trafford faithful.

Liverpool have made a near-perfect start to the season

In terms of results, Liverpool couldn't have expected much better than an opening six Premier League games that pitted them against Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham.

It's not about to get easier for the Reds either with a trip to face Spurs this weekend sure to test their early title credentials.

They've passed with flying colours but Ange Postecoglou's side was very impressive against Arsenal during the 2-2 draw in the North London Derby on Sunday.

Before then, Leicester City visit Anfield in the Carabao Cup which will give Klopp an opportunity to rest the legs of his starters.

Szobozlai is in particular need of a rest after finishing his energetic, all action display against West Ham by pressing like a monster despite the Reds leading 3-1.

It's these sort of displays that makes it incredibly unlikely that Klopp would trade any of his current midfielders for United's barring perhaps Casemiro.

Despite the encouraging transfer work Liverpool did this summer, they remain without a specialist no.6.

Alexis Mac Allister has done fine work in that role for Klopp so far but he is far better suited to a more advanced no.8 role which makes the most of the creativity which saw him create a goal for Darwin Nunez from nothing.

This angle really shows how absurdly accurate this pass from Mac Allister was. Sam McGuire on Twitter comments on how Nunez wasn't even on the run before the Argentine released the pass.

Liverpool's tactical demands are so specific that very few midfielders have the tools to succeed under Klopp.

Very few teams in the world have as much of a tactical demand on their midfield players but if the German can get his message across to his new signings and they can carry them out on the field, it's very difficult to see the Reds not winning some silverware this season.

Exciting times are once again upon Anfield...
