"I'm told": Fabrizio Romano shares what he's heard about €92 million Liverpool bid

Recent reports suggest that Liverpool have a growing interest in Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz with the 20-year-old in fine form this season.

With six goals and nine assists, Wirtz has started the 2023/24 campaign like a house and fire.

His impressive form has caught the attention of top clubs with Bayern Munich and Manchester City reportedly the most interested of the clubs expressing interest.

Suggestions of an £80 million (€92m) bid were swiftly put to bed this week by Simon Rolfes, Leverkusen's managing director of sport.

He said: “No, no one has approached us, and no one needs that.”

Fabrizio Romano reports on Liverpool interest

In his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside on Saturday, Romano reports: “Contrary to other reports, I’m told there’s still no asking price and nothing decided on Wirtz.

"He’s very focused on Leverkusen, they are flying now and nothing is happening.

“I don’t see them selling Florian in January, he’s a key player for Xabi Alonso.

"So, my expectation is for Wirtz to stay at the club in January.”

Even the relationship between Liverpool and Alonso is unlikely to be of much use in the January transfer window.

With Wirtz not likely to leave, this season could end up being a truly incredible one for the young star. If he can keep his form up, it will be quite something to see how many goals and assists he can get.
