"Jurgen Klopp is obsessive": Fabrizio Romano reports the boss is desperate to sign £49,000 ace

Jurgen Klopp has been making daily calls to ensure Liverpool are in the best possible position to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.

According to Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, the Liverpool boss is desperate to recruit the teenager.

The January transfer will slam shut tonight at 23:00 GMT and it seems as though there will be no more incomings for the Reds but Klopp seems to have his targets trained on the summer window.

Recent reports have claimed that Liverpool are the frontrunners in the race to sign Bellingham and Romano has provided a fresh update on the situation.

Jurgen Klopp "obsessive" over Jude Bellingham signing

Speaking on the Born Red podcast, Romano underlined the desire of Jurgen Klopp to get the 19-year-old into a Liverpool shirt this summer.

The journalist reports: "Jürgen Klopp is obsessive with the Jude Bellingham transfer and is making calls every single day to make sure Liverpool are as fast as possible on this deal.

"Liverpool are actively working to sign Jude Bellingham in the summer.”

While it's disappointing to hear that Liverpool won't be signing Moises Caicedo or Enzo Fernandez, Romano maintains that it's because the Reds are "actively pursuing" Bellingham.

Why is Klopp so obsessed with Jude Bellingham?

The 19-year-old has already established himself as one of the most talented midfielders in the world and he's only getting started.

As he ages and matures, gaining more experience and skill, whoever signs him is guaranteeing themselves a future world-class star.

This season alone, Bellingham has 10 goals and 4 assists for Dortmund. From five Champions League matches, he has 4 goals and 1 assist, proving that he is capable of dictating play at the highest level available.

This season, the Reds have seriously battled to dominate opponents in the middle of the park and this has led to exacerbated defensive issues and a huge creative block when attacking.

One thing needs to be clear though: for Bellingham to succeed at Liverpool, he needs to have strong defensive support behind him.

How much would Jude Bellingham cost Liverpool?

It's very difficult to say but it's obvious that Jude Bellingham will be the most expensive signing in Liverpool history by quite some margin.

Even without considering his wages, Borussia Dortmund are set to demand up to €150M (£132M), according to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg. It was also recently reported in Spain that the Reds have a financial edge over Real Madrid in the race to sign Jude.

The midfielder currently earns £49,000 per week with his Bundesliga employers but if Liverpool are going to spend over £100M to sign him, that stands to at least triple to £150,000 per week.

Liverpool have a pretty robust wage structure but Bellingham strikes me as the type of player FSG and Jurgen Klopp will make an exception for.
