Development on £50M signing would take summer spend over £145M after Szoboszlai announcement

Liverpool are accelerating their interest in Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia after completing a deal for Dominik Szoboszlai.

The club announced the Hungarian's move to Anfield on Sunday after triggering his release clause before the midnight deadline on June 30th.

He joins former Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister, who joined Liverpool at the start of June, and Lavia could be the next midfielder to join the Reds.

What's the latest on Romeo Lavia to Liverpool?

According to multiple reports, Liverpool have now turned their attention to Romeo Lavia after claims last week that a bid for the Belgian will arrive this week.

Liverpool are "seriously exploring" a move to sign Lavia but are hopeful they can sign him for less than Southampton's £50M valuation, journalist Ben Jacobs reports.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano confirms that Liverpool "are in the race" for Lavia and are "now having direct contacts on player and club side."

Last week, Belgian transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri reported that a bid should arrive this week.

An imminent bid seems likely given Liverpool's sense of urgency this summer in the transfer market and would give Jurgen Klopp the tools needed to bounce back next season.

Signing Lavia would take Liverpool summer spend over £145M

Liverpool's first deal of the summer brought Alexis Mac Allister to Anfield after the Reds triggered his £35M release clause. The Argentine solves Jurgen Klopp's need for a no.8 while their second summer signing adds more attacking impetus to the engine room.

Dominik Szoboszlai has joined the club for a £60M after his own release clause was triggered last week.

While Mac Allister is a hugely exciting signing, the arrival of Szoboszlai has fans online frothing with excitement ahead of the start of the new season.

So far, Liverpool have spent £95M this summer on two midfielders but should they sign Romeo Lavia, this could reach over £145M depending on whether or not Southampton allow the Reds to negotiate the fee down.
