Liverpool sit top of the Premier League table after seven league games and are set for the tough challenge of taking on Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.
Arne Slot has made an outstanding start to life as Liverpool’s manager and has gone a long way toward proving his detractors wrong at Anfield.
Some are still of the opinion that judgement should be reserved about Liverpool’s title credentials as the fixture list has been kind to the Reds at the start of the season.
A real test awaits for the Reds on Sunday when they host Chelsea at Anfield and the Blues are coming into the game on the back of good form as well.
Jamie Carragher stressed that Chelsea have a player in their team that would have definitely turned Liverpool into Premier League winners in Slot’s first season.
Cole Palmer would have won Arne Slot the title this season at Liverpool
The 22-year-old winger has been in scintillating form this season and has six goals and five assists in seven Premier League games.
He is going to be Chelsea’s main threat against a Liverpool side who have the best defensive record in the league this term.
However, Carragher insisted that if Liverpool had Palmer in their team Slot would be celebrating winning the league in his first season in England.
He pointed out that his goals and assists record mean that he is outperforming some Chelsea greats at this stage of his career.
“If Palmer was at Liverpool, Arne Slot would be more likely to finish his debut season as a title winner”, Carragher wrote in his column for the Daily Telegraph.
“Palmer is that good, currently averaging more goal involvements per match than Stamford Bridge greats like Didier Drogba and Diego Costa.”
Slot will be banking on his Liverpool defence to keep Palmer quite during the game and prove their title credentials with a win over Chelsea on Sunday.
