Liverpool are not offering a new contract to Luis Diaz at present despite claims to the contrary this week.
The Colombian has been sensational at the start of the new season, scoring three times while laying on an assist for Mohamed Salah as well.
However, claims from TBR Football that Diaz’s agent is “pressing for talks” with Liverpool over a fresh contract are false according to the Liverpool ECHO.
They report that the Reds have “dismissed” the rumours that a new contract is in the offing. These claims have been described as being “wide of the mark” and with three years left on his deal, Diaz is not the most pressing contract priority.
Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract at the end of the season and until those three are tied down, FSG are unlikely to focus on any other contracts.
Diaz has been fantastic this season but he still has work to do on ensuring his end product is consistent enough to warrant a big new contract.
That’s not to say he isn’t close to being on Liverpool’s contract renewal radar but rather that he will likely need to use this season as a way to force himself into the thinking of the club’s hierarchy.
