Rafael Benitez has insisted that the quality of the Liverpool squad is clear from the fact that they are leading the Premier League table at this stage of the season.
Liverpool have won five of their opening six Premier League games and are now sitting at the top of the league table ahead of teams such as Manchester City and Arsenal despite naysayers still insisting that they are not in the title race.
While it is still early in the season, the Reds have provided solid evidence that there won’t be any massive dropoff from the team following Jurgen Klopp’s exit.
Arne Slot has taken to managing in the Premier League like a duck to water and is now preparing his team to take on Bologna in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
This is Bologna’s first season in the Champions League and Benitez has talked about the feeling of playing at Anfield that they are going to experience this week.
Just look at where they are in the Premier League to know their quality, insists the former Liverpool manager
Benitez remains a cult figure at Anfield for winning the Champions League in 2005 and for going toe-to-toe with Manchester United in the late noughties.
He is also a well-respected coach in Italy and admitted that Bologna are going to have an experience at Anfield that they will never feel again.
The former Reds boss insisted that the fact that Liverpool are leading the Premier League table is enough evidence of the quality of players they have in their squad.
He conceded that it is going to be hard for Bologna but he has seen some improvements in the Serie A side in their recent games.
“Playing at Anfield is fascinating because that stadium gives off almost unrepeatable feelings”, Benitez told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“You don’t need to discover Liverpool’s quality, you just need to look at the names of their players who are now commanding the Premier League.
“These are the kinds of matches players want to experience and Bologna are reaping the fruits of the amazing job they did last season.
“To say it will be tough is banal but Bologna have shown improvements in recent games.”
