Why Mohamed Salah is right to put pressure on Liverpool over new contract

The Mo Salah saga surrounding his potential new contract has dragged on for months. Liverpool are keen for him to stay but there is still no agreement over a new deal between the 32-year-old’s representatives and the club.

Salah has already made it clear that he is annoyed by the fact that Liverpool are yet to put a formal offer on his table despite the negotiations dragging on for months.

With less than seven months left on his contract, the forward is not too happy that Liverpool are seemingly dragging their feet in the talks over a new deal for a player who is fifth on their all-time goalscorers list.

Liverpool are insistent that an offer can only be made once the basic terms of the deal get agreed upon between the two sides and they are nowhere close to having a deal in place.

Amidst the tussle between the two, it has emerged that Salah is actively engaging in talks with PSG and is on the cusp of agreeing terms to join them on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Mo Salah deemed to be putting artificial pressure on Liverpool

The prospect of Salah joining a Champions League rival like PSG is the nightmare scenario for Liverpool fans but there is more than what meets the eye here.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, PSG are not in talks with Salah over the prospect of him moving to the Parc des Princes in the summer on a free transfer.

PSG president Naseer Al-Khelaifi is indeed the forward’s friend but the French champions have not made an approach for the attacker yet.

Salah’s priority is still to be at Liverpool and his recent outburst showed that he cares about staying on at Anfield.

It has been claimed that the talk surrounding PSG is being generated to put pressure on the Reds to sort out a new deal for the forward soon.

Salah wants a three-year deal while Liverpool do not want to be held hostage in negotiations and offer an expensive contract to an ageing player.

He is well within his rights to do it

If you allow one of the best players to wear your shirt to get into the final seven months of his contract without offering him a new deal, expect him to play games.

PSG are not expected to move for Salah and even he is not likely to want to play in the French league given his need for competitiveness that has made him one of the best players in the world.

However, using PSG’s name to put pressure on Liverpool is fair game as the Reds have allowed this situation to fester for months. The player and his representatives are now well within their rights to throw names of clubs around in the media.

Liverpool could have easily avoided this situation if they had been more proactive and sorted out the new contract by now. They should now expect to hear more such clubs being linked with an interest in Salah.
