Mohamed Salah has yet to sign a new contract with Liverpool and the resultant saga has dragged on for months. The forward wants to stay but is annoyed that the club are yet to place an offer on his table to consider.
Salah assisted and scored in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, which took them nine points clear at the top of the Premier League standings.
The forward has continued to produce stellar performances despite the negotiations over a new deal dragging on for months but he is not happy about the situation.
Salah recently revealed that Liverpool are yet to offer him a new contract and is clearly annoyed by the way the club have dragged their heels in the talks with his representatives.
Liverpool insist that the negotiations with his agents have been positive but the player is growing increasingly circumspect about the club’s intentions.
Salah growing wary of what Liverpool would offer him
There were claims that the crux of the conflict between the two sides was about the length of the contract. Salah was said to be demanding a three-year deal while the Reds did not want to offer a longer contract to a player on the wrong side of the 30s.
However, according to The Athletic, Salah is now prepared to even sign a one-year extension in order to stay at Anfield.
The 32-year-old forward is now unsure whether the Reds would even agree to meet his expectations.
Salah is on a contract worth £350,000 per week in basic salary, but he earns well in excess of that, especially when performance-related bonuses are taken into consideration.
Can you name the club Liverpool sold these players to?
The forward is keen to stay at Liverpool but also believes that he is one of the best players in the world and the new deal must reflect that and his contributions this season.
He doesn’t believe that there will be a decline in his performance and feels he is still approaching his peak.
While the talk of PSG wanting to sign him has been nipped in the bud, for now, it seems Salah has some real frustration about Liverpool taking their time to offer him a worthwhile contract.
