Liverpool took a huge step towards their Champions League aspirations midweek.
It took a lot of patience and some scary moments, but the reds were able to pull off a shock result in Paris. From the start of the game, Paris Saint-Germain bombarded Liverpool’s box. The French side would have taken the lead if Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s goal was not ruled out for offside. Liverpool also breathed a sigh of relief when a penalty was not given as Ibrahima Konate seemed to have shoved Bradley Barcola in the box.
Arne Slot’s side held firm for most of the game. The Liverpool boss made some changes in the second half to turn the game in their favour. Slot’s decisions paid off late in the game as two of his substitutes combined to score. Darwin Nunez won an aerial duel and played a perfect pass to Harvey Elliot who slotted it past the keeper.
After the game, Luis Enrique said his side should have won the game.

What kept Liverpool in the game throughout 90 minutes was the effort of Alisson. The goalkeeper made nine saves and ended up winning Man of the Match. The Brazilian was able to keep out PSG as they laid an onslaught to Liverpool’s goal for a large part of the game.
Alisson showed the importance of having a reliable keeper. Despite being out injured for most of the season, he showed up on Wednesday night. A shock revelation from Anfield Watch has revealed that Liverpool have told Alisson not to take goal kicks as they fear he will hurt his hamstring again.
It is believed that the Brazilian has not fully healed from his initial injury and that Arne Slot has made the decision to play him through it. This is despite Caomhin Kelleher’s heroics earlier this season. Some people around the club see this as Slot not having confidence in Kelleher. The Liverpool boss has chosen to start Alisson who is not at 100% over him in crucial games.
What does this mean for Kelleher?
With his contract expiring soon, Caomhin Kelleher could leave this summer. The Ireland goalkeeper could end up being third choice keeper next season when Giorgi Mamardashvili arrives. If what is being reported about Alisson’s injury is true, then it would be a very sad way for Kelleher to end his Liverpool career.
