Liverpool are reportedly doing groundwork on a future signing by scouting Brazilian teenager Vitor Reis.
The Reds received much criticism for their transfer activity – or rather their lack therof. Federico Chiesa joined from Juventus near the close of the transfer window and wound up being their only signing of the summer.
With three wins from three in the Premier League, however, Liverpool look ready to challenge Manchester City for the title once more.
Beyond this season, however, Liverpool are looking at potential players to add to their squad and Reis is one they are paying particular attention to.
Liverpool and Arsenal send scouts to track Vitor Reis
According to Caught Offside, Liverpool and Arsenal both sent scouts to watch “wonderkid” Victor Reis in action. They’re not the only clubs interested either with Barcelona and Real Madrid also reported to have sent scouts to Brazil to keep a close eye on the 18-year-old defender.
Reis is reportedly facing an inevitable move to Europe as the continent’s biggest clubs clamour for the opportunity to sign him. Arsenal and Real Madrid already competed for his signature this summer but he ended up staying at Palmeiras.
The summer transfer window has historically been a difficult one to sign Brazilian players owing to the fact that their season runs according to a different calendar. The Brazilian season ends in January every year so clubs are typically reluctant to allow star players to leave between July and September given it’s the middle of their own campaign.
Liverpool could, in theory, sign him in the January transfer window but only time will tell.
