Report: Liverpool lining up two signings to complete before Deadline Day

Liverpool have begun the 2024/25 Premier League season as well as could be expected given Jurgen Klopp left the club at the end of last season but are yet to make any new signings.

This has understandably left some supporters feeling anxious about what not adding to the squad might mean for chances of success in Arne Slot’s first season at the club.

The first two wins of the season have helped allay some of these fears but not entirely.

Despite the encouraging nature of the latest 2-0 win over Brentford, there are still vulnerabilities in the side that would be wise to address before the summer transfer market slams shut on Saturday at midnight.

Fortunately, reports are circulating that indicate arrivals are on their way.

Liverpool reportedly lining up two signings to complete before Deadline Day

Liverpool want to sign a centre-back and a defensive midfielder this month, according to Football Insider, with depth in central defence and the no.6 role lacking.

The current makeup of the squad leaves Liverpool very vulnerable. With a lack of depth at the base of the spine of the starting XI, Slot could see all his hard work undone by a few untimely injuries.

As recent seasons have shown, the Reds are by no means impervious to huge batches of injuries and adding new players to the squad would be wise.

After all, it would be a real shame to see Slot suffer at the hands of the media as a result of not making any new signings. Transfer are hardly a surefire way to guarantee success- Liverpool winning the Premier League in 2019/20 is a testament to this- but all the same, completing a couple of transfers this month would go a long way to appeasing both the press and the fanbase.

Liverpool are back in the Champions League this season so will also have to contend with the step up in competition compared to the Europa League which offered sporadic opportunities for squad rotation.
