Report claims Liverpool might sell £67M superstar but it wouldn’t make sense

Alisson has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in recent years

Liverpool could be gearing up for a major squad overhaul in 2025 as they evaluate their options and plan for the future.

After a relatively quiet summer, significant changes at Anfield seem increasingly likely, especially with Jurgen Klopp’s departure on the horizon and several key players nearing the end of their contracts.

While Liverpool successfully retained the core of their squad this summer, only Joël Matip, Thiago, and Adrián left as free agents, and Fábio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg were sold permanently, speculation is rife about potential departures.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah are among the players with expiring contracts, making them eligible to negotiate with other clubs from January. Despite this, Liverpool are reportedly preparing to offer new contracts to keep these stars at the club.

However, recent reports suggest that another major change could be on the horizon: the potential sale of goalkeeper Alisson Becker. According to Fichajes, Alisson’s future at Liverpool are increasingly uncertain following the club’s decision to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.

The Georgian goalkeeper, who was acquired for up to £29 million, will spend this season on loan at Valencia before joining Liverpool next year.

The potential arrival of Mamardashvili has sparked speculation that Liverpool might consider a complete overhaul of their goalkeeping department. With Adrián already departed and Caoimhin Kelleher seeking more regular playing time elsewhere, Liverpool could look to capitalize on a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia for Alisson, which Fichajes suggests could be an “ideal situation” for the club’s plans.

Selling Alisson makes no sense

While a sale of Alisson could create an opportunity for Mamardashvili to step in as the new first-choice goalkeeper, it would be a major blow to Liverpool’s defensive stability.

Alisson, signed for a then-record £67 million as the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, has been instrumental in Liverpool’s recent successes.

His world-class performances have not only transformed Liverpool’s defense but also played a key role in their title-winning campaign.

Given Alisson’s continued excellence and his pivotal role in Liverpool’s success, selling him would be a perplexing move unless his performance levels were to significantly drop.

As long as Alisson remains at the peak of his powers, as he currently does, it would make little sense for Liverpool to part with one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
