Liverpool could be set to make a dramatic move to secure a £70m defender aheadof Manchester City, as the Arne Slot era continues its promising start.
With the recent transfer window ending on a high note for Liverpool, the club may be preparing to bolster their defence in the upcoming January transfer window.
Liverpool’s summer business was capped off with the arrivals of Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa. While Chiesa is expected to make his debut at Anfield after the international break, Mamardashvili will spend the rest of the season on loan at Valencia, delaying his Liverpool debut until 2025.
The arrival of Mamardashvili has already cast doubt on the future of Caoimhin Kelleher, who has expressed a desire for more regular first-team action.

Amidst these changes, Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a major defensive reinforcement.
According to Graeme Bailey for TBR Football, Liverpool are considering a move for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
This potential deal would see Liverpool attempt to outmanoeuvre Manchester City and Newcastle United, both of whom have shown interest in the England international.
Newcastle’s £65m bid was rejected by Palace, who are holding out for £70m, just £5m short of the fee Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
Guehi’s addition would significantly strengthen Liverpool’s defensive options.
With Joel Matip’s departure at the end of last season, Liverpool has a gap to fill in their backline. Guehi could complement the existing defensive talents of Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Jarell Quansah.

His presence would also provide a future-proof solution for when Van Dijk, who is 33 and may leave next summer, eventually departs.
Beating Manchester City to Guehi’s signature would also be a considerable achievement for Liverpool. John Stones, Guehi’s England teammate, has praised the young defender’s performances, highlighting his ability to handle high-pressure situations with maturity. Stones described Guehi as “so good” and noted his impressive handling of tournament football and emotional highs.
As Liverpool prepares for a busy season ahead, securing Guehi could be a key move to bolster their squad and ensure continued success on multiple fronts.
