“I already had my suitcase ready”: 23-year-old winger was close to a Liverpool transfer

UNAM Pumas forward César Huerta has confirmed he was on the verge of joining Liverpool this summer and had even packed his bags in preparation for the move.

Speaking to AS while on international duty, the 23-year-old Mexican winger revealed that he was set for a transfer to Anfield before plans fell through.

Reports from earlier in the summer indicated that Liverpool were keen on signing Huerta, with a plan to immediately loan him out to Sunderland.

However, the deal ultimately collapsed when Black Cats manager Regis Le Bris vetoed the loan move, putting an end to the transfer.

There has been speculation about why the deal failed, but Club Universidad Nacional president Luis Raúl González Pérez clarified that it was not due to Huerta or his performance.

Instead, the issue stemmed from Liverpool’s plan to loan him out, which fell apart, disrupting the entire transfer.

Huerta confirmed this sequence of events, stating, “I already had my suitcase ready, and I dropped it.

” Despite the disappointment, he remains optimistic about future opportunities. “I know that sooner or later, if I keep doing things right, I’ll get the opportunity. It’s a train that only happens once, and I’m focused on Pumas.”

For now, Huerta is concentrating on his performances with Pumas and the Mexican national team but remains hopeful that Liverpool or other European clubs might come calling again. Rumors have already surfaced in Mexico suggesting that Liverpool could make another attempt to sign him during the January transfer window, making this a situation to watch in the coming months.
