Liverpool’s pursuit for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni is over according to reports. The Italian has been linked to the Reds since the end of last season.
Fabrizio Romano reports that any possible deal for Alessandro Bastoni is off as there is “nothing happening”.
Bastoni is come off the back of an incredible season in Serie A, as he helped Inter Milan win the league with one of the best defensive records. He was also one of the standouts in Italy’s EURO 2024 campaign even though they were knocked out early.
Reports from Italy hint at Alessandro Bastoni stay
The Inter Milan defender is said to be very comfortable at the club, and is not looking to move in the short term. Alessandro Bastoni’s agent Tullio Tinti also revealed that clubs have gotten in contact for the defender. Manchester City and Real Madrid were the clubs named in connection to the defender, but Tinti says that his client is not moving any time soon.
“Bastoni is a player I watched grow since he was 14, back when he used to play as a left winger,” recalled the experienced agent during his appearance on Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews.
“Alessandro is a formidable player. He has the technical quality of a midfielder and the physicality of a defender. He is fast and has a strong character. We’re talking about a top player.
“In recent years many foreign clubs have knocked on the door, but Inter, who want to win titles, do not get rid of their champions.”
“In the past years, Manchester City have inquired about him. More recently, there was an interest from Real Madrid.”
Alessandro Bastoni and his agent seem to be on the same wavelength concerning any transfers this summer.
Liverpool’s defensive options
The Reds still have a solid backline with decent depth and even though the addition of Alessandro Bastoni could be a massive upgrade, they look settled at the back.
Ibrahima Konate has shown glimpses that he is ready to be the leader of the Liverpool backline in the future and Jarrell Quansah, who broke out last season has also shown promise. Alongside club captain Virgil Van Dijk, Liverpool have a solid defensive core of players.
Slot waiting for the right players
New Liverpool coach Arne Slot has been patient this summer, choosing to assess the squad during an impressive pre season run. The Reds beat Arsenal and Manchester United with Fabio Carvalho playing a key role in both. The young midfielder however, has been linked with a move away from Anfield.
