Fulham have reportedly joined the race to sign Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho as they search for a new attacking midfielder to boost the team’s quality.
After signing Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe for a reported £34million, Fulham want to add more options to their squad and are looking at Carvalho. The London club lost their best midfielder Palhinha to Bayern Munich earlier this summer and will need to beef up their team if they hope to stay in the Premier League this season.
Liverpool open to selling Fabio Carvalho
According to reports, Liverpool are open to selling Carvalho, but will need a significant transfer fee to consider parting ways. The Reds rejected a £15million bid from Southampton.
Fabio Carvalho staked his claim to first team status during pre season as he starred in the friendlies. He scored against Manchester United and Arsenal. Carvalho joined Hull City midway through last season and ended his campaign brilliantly with 9 goals and 2 assists in 20 games in the Championship.
Fulham’s interest in Fabio Carvalho concrete
The Mail’s Riley Steele spoke about the interest in Carvalho alongside the transfer dealings at Anfield this summer. He revealed that Liverpool will be looking for around £25million if clubs are seriously interested in Fabio Carvalho.
Steele says Fulham are looking at the youngster:
“There are sales available. Off the top of my head, Tyler Morton, they want £20m for him, Sepp van den Berg, they want £20m for him, and then Fabio Carvalho. We know they’ve turned down £15m from Southampton – Leicester are keen, Fulham are keen, so they wouldn’t have any trouble selling him,”
Fulham boss Marco Silva also voiced his team’s need for reinforcements ahead of the new season, especially after losing star midfielder Joao Palhinha:
“It’s part of the club’s life but unfortunately we didn’t just lose Joao. Last year it was (Aleksandr) Mitrovic. This year Joao broke the sales record. We lost more important players,”
“As for Joao, he had two great seasons. He developed to a level that allowed him to be a starter for our national team and to be wanted by a club like Bayern. It was time for him to go.
“It’s part of our history to help clubs and develop players. We don’t like to lose our strength – naturally we were stronger with him – but we have to sign a player who can play a different role.”
Fabio Carvalho would be a great fit at Fulham, and would get a lot of playing time if he decides to move to London. However, there is still every chance he stays at Anfield for this coming season.
