According to reports from Portugal, Liverpool have accepted a bid for midfielder Fabio Carvalho just days to the start of the new Premier League season.
The report from A Bola claims that Brentford have agreed a deal for Carvalho. Earlier this week, Fulham also registered their interest in the Liverpool midfielder. Southampton had a £15million bid declined for the player earlier this summer.
Fabio Carvalho had been in impressive form on Liverpool’s pre season tour as he scored against Manchester United. Reports claimed that Arne Slot was keen on the youngster due to his performances on the tour. The Reds were open to letting Carvalho go for the right price and it looks like Brentford have won the race.
Fabio Carvalho fee set at €20million
According to Fabrizio Romano, the fee is set at £20million plus £7.5million in add-ons from Brentford. Liverpool will also have 17.5% sell-on clause.
The final fee would hover around £27.5million, close to the price the Reds were open to selling for. Fabio Carvalho joined the Reds in May 2022 for a reported fee of £5million, potentially rising to £7.7million with add-ons.
This would mean Liverpool would make a healthy profit of around £20million of the Portugal U21 international.
What Arne Slot has said about Carvalho
Fabio Carvalho ended last season on a high as he starred for Hull City in the championship after going on loan in January. 9 goals and 2 assists in 20 games earned a lot of plaudits for the Reds’ youngster.
This set him up perfectly for this summer’s pre season tour under new head coach Arne Slot. The Dutch coach has played Carvalho out wide despite the 21-year old admitting that his best position is through the middle:
“I’d probably say playing more through the midfield. Players like Curtis, Harvey and Szobo as well – we’ve got the players to do so. Playing through them and getting me, Mo and the players higher up like Jots on the ball as well. Being able to play through the thirds is what we want to do and what the manager wants to be our identity.”
The 21-year old is one of the many youngsters on Liverpool’s pre season tour who had to show the new head coach that they could compete for a first team place.
Fabio’s future
Carvalho will get more playing time away from Anfield, as all the clubs he was linked to: Fulham, Southampton and now Brentford have targeted midfield additions.
Premier League minutes in your preferred position is ideal and at this point the transfer is the best option for all parties involved.
