Liverpool have had a frustrating few months this year.
The reds have had to deal with Real Madrid since January. The Spanish club tried to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in January. Madrid offered a lowball fee around €20million, which the reds promptly rejected. Liverpool have had to be really wary of Real Madrid over the past few months. The Spanish side have been pursuing Trent for the last year, and have convinced the defender to join their club. Alexander-Arnold has reportedly signed a long-term deal and will join the Champions League holders when his contract expires in June.
Trent was not the only Liverpool star Madrid pursued, the La Liga side had concrete interest in Ibrahima Konate. It has been reported that Real Madrid want to repeat their tricks once again, as Konate’s current deal expires in 2026. The reds could end up losing two key pieces in the team in the space of a year this summer.

Real Madrid sent contract warning to Liverpool star

It has been no secret that Trent has been dealing with Real Madrid over the past year. His England teammate Jude Bellingham is said to have played a huge part in convincing the defender. Alexander-Arnold had an interesting interview a few months ago where he hinted at his future:
“I think cementing a legendary status within football, whether or not it’s recognised in five years or not, I think what I do between now and five years will be, potentially in 15, 20 years time… I’ll look back and I think these five years will cement a legendary status in football [for me].”
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed some shocking details about Real Madrid’s dealings with the 26-year old. According to the journalist, the Champions League holders made it clear during talks that Trent would only deal with the club on their terms.
[🟢] NEW: Real Madrid were VERY clear with Trent Alexander-Arnold since day 1: ‘If you want to join, it has to be on OUR terms, or else, extend with Liverpool or do whatever you want’.
Trent IMMEDIATELY accepted.

It was a straight choice between dealing with Real Madrid or staying at Liverpool, the Spanish side did not allow any leeway during talks. And Trent made his decision right away, which has now been known for the last few months.
Reds should be disappointed
Liverpool fans should really be disappointed over what happened between Trent and Real Madrid. Basically, the reports show that the defender showed no hesitation when a deal was offered. He did not even try and sign a new contract so that the reds could get a transfer fee, like Jude Bellingham and Jack Grealish did with their respective clubs.
