Real Madrid could throw Liverpool transfer plans into disarray once again

Real Madrid will once again have the chance to interfere in transfer plans involving Liverpool.

The Spanish giants are pursuing Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is available on a free this summer. Madrid even put forward a bid at the start of the window which was swiftly rejected by Liverpool. As the season goes on, fans around Anfield have come to accept that Trent will leave his boyhood club.

On the Real Madrid front, both parties are very close to agreeing a pre-contract. It has been reported that only the fine details remain, as the deal is ‘98% complete‘. Trent will pen a bumper deal, and is set to earn around £400,000 a week when he joins the Champions League holders.

Liverpool fought hard in the January window, with Madrid backing down on their stance to poach Trent in January for a low fee. The Reds now have to factor that in to their summer plans. Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving would be a huge blow, as he has delivered solid contribution from right back. Conor Bradley has emerged over the past year, but it is very possible that Liverpool will be in the market this summer.

Madrid will also be in the market for a left back in the summer, and Liverpool target Miguel Gutierrez has popped up. Liverpool reporter David Lynch says the reds are monitoring the Girona left back. Gutierrez is valued around €35million. But Real Madrid have a trump card up their sleeve. The Spanish side have a buy back clause worth €9million for the 22-year old. Gutierrez left Madrid’s B team to join Girona in 2022.

Los Blancos have had issues with Fran Garcia and Ferland Mendy at left back this season. And it is very possible that they could take a look at Gutierrez. This would be a similar move to what the club did with Dani Carvajal years ago.

Reds could need to look elsewhere to solve left back problem

It is very possible that Real Madrid go back and sign their academy product. This would mean Liverpool will have to shift their attention to other targets once again. Malick Diouf could be available in the summer, with his club chairman admitting that he would be powerless to stop a move.

Liverpool would need to act fast, as Brighton failed with a deadline day move for the Senegalese defender.
