Real Madrid could make sensational U-turn after Liverpool star asks for €20m-a-year

The latest development in the Liverpool and Trent Alexander-Arnold saga.

Liverpool have three key players who are set to be out of contract this summer. As of this January, Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are free to negotiate pre-contracts with foreign clubs. The Reds are still working on persuading the trio to stay at the club past this summer. Liverpool have offered Ibrahima Konate a new deal as they look to tie down the French defender.

Despite the off field problems, it has not seemed to affect the team on the pitch so far. After a short blip in results earlier this month, Liverpool have bounced back with two huge wins. The Reds won 2-0 away to Brentford, just days after the bees held Manchester City to a draw. Liverpool also beat Lille to continue their 100% record in the Champions League group phase.

While Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have made their intentions clear that they would try to extend their stay at Anfield, Trent Alexander-Arnold looks on his way out. The England international is reportedly in talks to sign a deal with Champions League holders Real Madrid.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Liverpool could be back in contention for Trent after the defender rejected Madrid’s first contract offer. The report claims that the defender is far apart when it comes to the financial details between both parties. Trent is reportedly demanding a salary close to what Jude Bellingham earns at Real Madrid which is around €400,000 a week. Tavolieri reports that Trent is looking for a huge salary and signing bonus in order to join the Spanish giants this summer.

It was also reported that the defender rejected multiple offers from Liverpool because he felt they were too low. Trent is a priority for Madrid, who do not want negotiations to drag on as the season approaches the summer.

Door could be open for the Reds

If the report is to be believed, Madrid have not agreed anything concrete and Liverpool could still present a better offer. If Madrid do not meet Trent’s demands, a deal could collapse but the Reds need to be willing to offer the 26-year old the kind of money being reported. Liverpool losing all three first team stars will send a very poor message to the long-term supporters of the club.
