If report is true, there's a strong chance of Liverpool completing £42.5M signing before deadline day

Liverpool could move for midfield target Matheus Nunes following the latest reports from Portugal.

Nunes, 23, has been linked with Chelsea, Liverpool and Wolverhampton in the window so far but no official offers have been submitted.

As per today’s version of Correio da Manha following the signing of Trincao from Barcelona on loan, Sporting CP will only enter into the transfer market to sell players this summer. Paisley Gates cite the Portuguese outfit, writing that there is a "strong possibility" he could join the Reds this summer.

This could mean Liverpool have the perfect opportunity to take their strong interest to the next level.

The Portuguese midfielder is currently valued at around £31.5m, but the club is reportedly seeking a fee of around £42.5m to let their man go.

This would be a fair fee for the 23-year-old given he has three more years left on his current deal with the reigning Primeira Liga champions.

His best qualities would suit Liverpool as a strong ball carrier and dribbler with a high work rate.

Not a prolific midfielder as of yet, he produced four goals and five assists last season for the league and cup winners Sporting.

Klopp's Comments

Liverpool's midfield boasts strong depth with a balance of youth and experience, but fans still have doubts over injury-prone players such as Thiago, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita.

Klopp insisted that he was happy with his midfield options and singled out his talented youth players.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Liverpool manager claimed: “I know that people think we should have signed a midfielder…actually we have because Harvey Elliot was our best player in the first four matches of the start of last season.

“We’ve signed Fabio Carvalho who is a really interesting player and Tyler Morton is now training as an 8, so when you see him now training, he’s absolutely exceptional.” Klopp added.
