Liverpool make approach for £3k-a-week midfielder - what a signing he would be

Liverpool have reportedly made a move for their £3k-a-week midfield target but will face competition from Chelsea.

The search for a midfielder has continued despite the fact that the summer window closed nearly a month ago.

Issues in Liverpool's engine room are continuing to pop-up and the Reds are clearly planning for next summer when James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out of contract.

One potential recruit is the highly rated and highly linked Moises Caicedo from Brighton, although Liverpool are one of a whole host of clubs interested in the midfielder.

Latest reports on Caicedo to Liverpool

Liverpool have reportedly made an approach to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo as the search for midfielders continues.

The Reds signed Arhur Melo on loan from Juventus in the summer for the season, but he is seen as a short-term solution to Liverpool's injury problems in the middle of the pitch.

Chelsea are said to be planning a to make a move for the talented midfielder as Graham Potter will know the talents of Caicedo with the pair having worked together at the Amex Stadium.

Caicedo's season so far

Having had a great end to last season, he carried on where he left off with a dominating man of the match performance at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season.

He managed an 82% pass success rate, four tackles and two aerial wins as he bullied the United midfield and not for the first time. His stats over the last year have consistently increased as they reflect a well-rounded, all-action midfield presence.

According to FbRef, he ranks between the 70th-84th percentiles for tackles, interceptions, dribbles completed, clearances, touches in the opposition penalty area and non-penalty goals - what more do you want from a 20-year-old?

Game after game he continues to look strong and effective and he's likely to see his stock raise due to the PL and the upcoming World Cup where he looks set to play a key role for Ecuador. Liverpool always buy smart and Caicedo may be one of the smartest deals they could look to secure
