With the current contract situations at Liverpool, more clubs continue to target the Reds’ first team stars.
Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are yet to sign new deals at Anfield as the season progresses. Liverpool are reportedly keen to offer new deals to all three players, but are willing to wait till the summer to see how the season unfolds.
Arne Slot has done an incredible job despite the news surrounding the club. The Dutch coach has Liverpool top of the Premier League, Champions League group phase and in contention for all domestic trophies. Despite all this, the trio of Salah, Trent and Van Dijk have not let the off field issues affect their play. All three have had stellar campaigns and will hope to cap this season off with multiple trophies.

With these players set to leave the club in the summer, a lot of teams across Europe have positioned themselves to sign them. After the contract situations revolving around Salah, Trent and Van Dijk, Liverpool have stepped up efforts to sign current players to longer term deals. This includes French defender Ibrahima Konate. The 25-year old recently revealed that he has a contract offer on the table from Liverpool:
“Who talked about that a few months ago?” he said when asked about his contract talks. “The club didn’t say anything, I didn’t say anything. It’s one person who said that.
“I was not ready, I didn’t know when he said that. But after that, I spoke with the club. I think I am really focussed on what is happening now. We will see what will happen.
“Yes (I have been offered a deal). This is another conversation (whether I am close to signing).”
Konate could be lured back to France
The former Liepzig defender has not hidden his love for Paris, as the defender was born there. When interviewed by Canal Plus last year, Konate said the following on a potential move to the Parc des Princes:
“Could I imagine myself wearing the red and blue of PSG? If I said no, I’d be lying, but if you’re asking, is it one of my objectives? Not at all.”
Liverpool and Ibrahima Konate are yet to finalize a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2026. Paris Saint-Germain plan to capitalize on this situation next summer.
Although no transfer is anticipated this January, PSG plan to make a strong push for the defender in the summer, when Liverpool will be under pressure to consider offers. Konate will be eligible to sign a pre-contract with non-English clubs in about a year, making this summer Liverpool’s last opportunity to secure a significant transfer fee for him.
