Who is Jayden Danns? Meet the 18-year-old goal machine from the Liverpool Academy

Jayden Danns was named in Liverpool's lineup for the first time on Wednesday evening as Jurgen Klopp was forced to contend with an overwhelming number of injuries.

Danns is an 18-year-old striker who has been plundering goals for the Liverpool U18s this season and despite the season still a few months away from completion, the teenager already has 16 goals.

With the likes of Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah all ruled out due to injury, the club announced the team to face Luton with Danns on the bench. It was the first time he had ever been named in a senior Liverpool squad.

So, who is Jayden Danns?

Jayden Danns is another Scouser in the Liverpool ranks and having joining the club at the age of eight, the 18-year-old has been with the Reds ever since.

The striker has burst through the ranks this season and while he was only called up to the first-team squad to face Luton due to the number of injuries Klopp has had to contend with, he is a real star in the making.

What are Danns' strengths?

Danns excels at linking play together and despite his gangly appearance, the teenager is technically brilliant and already has a strong understanding of the importance of releasing the ball quickly as a striker.

His finishing is outstanding but it's link-up play that has already seen him compared to Harry Kane. The Bayern Munich star is the best striker in the world when it comes to combining hold-up play with creativity.

While he only played nine minutes against Luton, it was enough time to almost grabbed an assist for Cody Gakpo but it was Harvey Elliott that found the top corner, marking his 100th Liverpool appearance with a wonderful goal.

What are his weaknesses?

He's not the quickest player and that could become an issue but like Harry Kane, Danns will need to rely on his speed of thought and technical quality to stand out in the intense Premier League.

What has Jurgen Klopp had to say about Jayden Danns?

Speaking after Liverpool beat Norwich City 5-2 in the FA Cup, Jurgen Klopp mentioned Danns and Trey Nyoni by name as some of the “special” players coming through the Academy ranks at the moment.

Klopp said: “Trey and Dannsy are special as well from the U18s.

“There are a lot of really good players coming up still. The academy is in a good moment, I would say, production-wise. It’s wonderful.”

In his pre-Luton press conference, Klopp again singled out the two Academy starlets as “massive talents” that can help Liverpool through this unforeseen injury crisis.

"We still have options there, definitely, players who showed already what they can do like James [McConnell] or Bobby [Clark]." Klopp said.

“Others even who didn’t feature yet but are in or around that, Koumas, Dannsy, Trey, they are all massive talents.”
