Statistics: Liverpool's top three players revealed - £13.5M player needs to start more

Liverpool's list of their top three players statistically has been revealed and the results are not exactly what we expected.

Given the indifferent start to the season, most of Liverpool's big hitters have all fallen short of the top levels that we've become so accustomed to over the last few years.

A departing Sadio Mane has meant a new look front line and injuries to key players in defence and midfield have left them with issues. However, it means that other players have come into the fray and long-term that can only be good for the squad.

In a list that would be typically dominated by the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Thiago, we get alternative names that have performed despite a genuine drop-off from their 'stars'.

3. Trent Alexander-Arnold (7.02)

Alexander-Arnold possesses a 35.1% accuracy from the wide position, edging out Newcastle's Kieran Trippier with 34.9%. Of course, that also beats out the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, James Ward-Prowse and Ivan Perisic.

Former French centre-back Frank Leboeuf jumped on the bandwagon making an outlandish statement when he told Journal du Dimanche recently that the Liverpool star is a 'Champoionship level' defensively.

"Look at Trent Alexander-Arnold. I love the guy, his offensive qualities. But defensively, he's Championship level," Leboeuf told Journal du Dimanche. "Only [Jurgen] Klopp's system works for him. When it doesn't work as well as it has this season, all you see is his defensive shortcomings."

Perhaps he has started extremely poorly but the return of Jordan Henderson on the right hand side of midfield plus the return of Ibrahima Konate should also help to give him that protection he's been granted during his career so far.

2. Kostas Tsimikas (7.3)

Perhaps the surprise of the list, left-back Kostas Tsimikas has made the most of an unfortunate injury to Andy Robertson to take over the role and flourish so far.

Given that Robertson is being eased back from his injury, the Greek defender will get his first run of games in the Liverpool side since joining from Olympiakos in 2020.

This season has seen him display a high level of technical ability on the ball and his delivery from out wide and from corners have been Robertson-esque, allowing the Reds to maintain their high level of quality from their full-backs.

It's three assists so far in all competitions and in the league he's managed 1 key pass per 90 and a 89.7% pass success rate. There's still some way to go to prove he's as capable as Robertson defensively, but it's so far so good for the 'Greek Scouser'.

1. Luis Diaz (7.3)

With the strange form of Darwin Nunez, the inconsistencies from Salah and Diogo Jota only just returning to full fitness, Diaz is the only forward who's consistently performed well and looked like the player he was when he burst into this Liverpool team.

Per game, he's offering 2.7 shots, 1.8 dribbles and 1.7 tackles as well as four goals from eight games. He's unlucky to have not added to that total after hitting the post against Fulham and Everton and he's been sharp overall.

His energy, pace and directness will continue to cause defenders all types of problems, and for Liverpool fans, they can feel confident knowing as the team slowly regroups and finds it's best form again, Diaz could really begin to shine.
